First There Was Catfishing…Now There’s WOKEfishing

( You’ve heard of the term “catfishing” right? It’s a way of tricking someone online into thinking you are someone you’re not. It’s a surprisingly common practice whereby people fool others into thinking they are dating a supermodel when the person they’re talking to might actually be an elderly grandmother or even a member of the same sex.

Catfishing in dating has been a problem for some years now, but according to a report from left-wing outlet Vice News, left-wing activists now fear being “wokefished.” The report says that genuine left-wing activists fear that people may pose on dating websites as being equally progressive and left wing to be tricked into having sex with someone who doesn’t actually share their views.

The outlet explains the definition of wokefishing, saying it is “when people masquerade as holding progressive political views to ensnare potential partners.”

“A wokefish may at first present themselves as a protest-attending, sex-positive, anti-racist, intersectional feminist who drinks ethically sourced oat milk and has read the back catalogue of Audre Lorde, twice. But in reality, they don’t give a sh*t. Or, as if often the case, they are actively the opposite in their personal lives.”

Not only does this reveal how far-left radicals refuse to date anybody who isn’t a member of their cult, but it shows that some people are resorting to pretending they support the same ideas presumably because it has become extremely difficult to date in this divisive political climate.

Vice notes that the practice of wokefishing probably started before the recent “racial justice” movement and could go back to 2016 when President Donald Trump’s campaign started upsetting leftists.

“Crises such as the tragic murder of George Floyd and the coronavirus pandemic have thrown societal injustices into even sharper relief over the past few months, and as a result, there’s been much greater emphasis on individual agency when it comes to the urgent dismantling of oppressive systems,” Vice explains. “It’s no surprise that singles are now consciously choosing partners who are on the same wavelength as them.”

One thing that is surprising, though, and that’s how non-leftists (or just sane, normal people) are going out of their way to date wokies. Weird!
