(PoliticalLookout.com)- It’s only been a few weeks since Joe Biden took the White House, and already Iran is demanding even more money from the United States.
They must have gotten a taste for cash after President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Joe Biden sent the terrorist-supporting nation $1.7 billion in cash.
A new report from the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reveals how Iran is using “maximum pressure” to push the Biden administration to lift sanctions against the country and allow it to become a nuclear threshold state.
“In recent weeks, Iran has been implementing a policy of “maximum/wise resistance,” manifested in “maximum pressure” on the U.S. and the international community in a range of arenas,” MEMRI reported.
“This policy is aimed at causing the Biden administration to lift all sanctions on Iran and compensate it for the damage they caused; leverage Iran’s nuclear accomplishments to date to gain additional ones; and have Iran recognized as a nuclear threshold state with the ability to produce a nuclear bomb within a short time, in order to move towards a nuclear balance of terror in the Middle East,” they continued.
MEMRI explained how the Iranian regime has repeatedly violated the 2015 Iran nuclear deal pushed by Obama and Biden by enriching uranium to levels higher than agreed. While President Donald Trump tore up the deal after entering the White House, it remains in place with a number of Western countries, including France and the United Kingdom.
Iran has also shown that they are capable of developing long-range missiles, a sign that the country intends on demonstrating its strength.
And in recent years, the country has ramped up rhetoric against the United States and even seized several oil tankers.
“It should be emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is the Iranian regime’s national project, and that all political streams – ideologues, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the government of President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif – are fully on board with it,” MEMRI’s report added.
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on January 8 that new negotiations with Iran will require Western countries to immediately stop their sanctions.
“The Western front and our enemies must end this cruel move – meaning the sanctions on the Iranian nation – and stop this immediately,” the ayatollah said. “They are required to lift all the sanctions.”
Khamenei also said that the United States must address “the issue of damages” caused by the sanctions and that they will be “following up on this in later phases.”
President Joe Biden insisted to the nation’s press recently that he would not lift sanctions before re-entering the negotiating table, meaning the two countries are at a stalemate.
President Rouhani also warned the United States federal government that they should have learned “lessons” from the Trump administration and expect them to “make up” for his mistakes.
“The previous president built skyscrapers and did not understand politics. But the new American administration understands politics and has political experience. … The ball is in the court of the U.S. and Washington. If they fulfil their obligations, we will too. Trump is dead, but the JCPOA is still alive,” he said.
Will President Biden bend first?
